The Oregonian, Saturday, December 7, 1968 Oregonians Die In War (excerpt) Marine Lance Cpl. Walter D. Freeman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter D. Freeman, 17827 SE Oatfield Road, Gladstone, was killed in action in Vietnam, the Defense Department announced Friday. …Mrs. Freeman said the family had been informed he died of gunshot wounds while on a patrol. Lance Cpl. Freeman was born June 24, 1950 in Portland and attended Franklin and West Linn high schools. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in June, 1967, and had been in Vietnam about 4 months. Funeral arrangements are pending at Cochran’s Sunset Chapel in Gladstone.
